At least it had a slightly interesting plot and was mildly entertaining and mildly scary. But that doesn’t change the fact it is a very predictable horror movie. It wasn’t a very good movie, mainly because it’s plot was cannibals were stalking a group of unlikely people in the middle of the woods. The most you can do is sit in your seat, get drunk, and invite a bunch of your football buddies over, and watch some random horror movie called wrong turn. You will like it, because you are drunk. For me, I was sober, and this made me roll my eyes many times, but it is what it is, a slightly slasher movie made for young adults/teens. It hits it’s target audience, teen girls who get scared easily. And the sequels were already guaranteed.

ghost ship *.5/****

From the same director of thirteen ghosts a year earlier, it actually brings us a slightly more creative story, but it once again goes formula. Bad acting, bad plot, and being generally a formula horror, it isn’t worth my time, or yours for that matter. It was basically the same story as thirteen ghosts, which made me frown and laugh at the same time. I’m growing weary of these formula horror movies, and this one makes that feeling stronger in me. And the plot? A group of people believe a man when he says he has spotted a ship that disappeared years ago, and he leads them to the ship, however we never get to know him very well, or any of the characters well, and they find out what happened on that ship, and the goriness of the beginning scene was completely exaggerated, and begs the question: could a thin wire actually cut 30 people in half? I beg to differ with this. A little better than thirteen ghosts, but not by much.

thirteen ghosts (2001) *.5/****

I can’t say I’m very happy with modern horror. It seems to be one giant formula. Get an average group of young college students or a family of adults and terrorize them to please an audience. This one has a family of adults AND younger people too. Slightly entertaining, the story brings us to an old house, and the plot, which actually had potential brings us with a group of people who are intent on buying their grandfather’s house, and they soon learn that there is twelve evil ghosts stalking them. They get glasses and through them are able to see the ghosts, all twelve of them. And when the ghosts get unleashed, all hell breaks loose on this small group of innocent people. Filled with ridiculous, ugly, and disturbing looking ghosts, including a naked one, thirteen ghosts, a remake of a 1960 horror movie, brings us very little entertainment, but it sadly did pretty well, as it found it’s audience, teenagers having a sleepover party. A waste of time, mine and yours.

house of wax **/****

Here we have a formula horror movie with formula, or uninteresting, characters, and a ridiculous premise. Two killers, one with an injury from a birth malfunction, turn their victims into wax models, and display them in their store. As the characters begin to die one by one, I begin to cheer for the killers instead of the people running away from them. Why oh why would a group of characters just happen to stumble into a town that is owned by killers, and every person has been turned into wax? A I said before, ridiculous. Is deserves no more and no less than being watched on a sleepover party, or a lazy watch when your half asleep flicking channels at midnight. Though I can’t say I was expecting a very good movie when Paris Hilton was an important part of the cast of a horror movie. It’s a teen slasher flick, nothing more, nothing less.
